ROMA TURNS IT ON FOR EIGHTH MILE SERIES

18 May 2010

Round Two of the Nitro Magazine South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series has seen more than 100 racers hit Ironbark Raceway at the weekend.

Across the Junior Dragster, Modified Bike, Super Street, Super Sedan, Modified and Classic categories there was plenty of action to be had for the on-site fans on Saturday the 15th, which was round two of the four round (including the final) series launched late last year.

Willowbank Raceway president John Winterburn is the driving force behind the new eighth mile series, and said he was pleased to see the series gathering monentum in its first year.

“One hundred competitors at Roma over the weekend and some really spirited racing was great to see,” said Winterburn.

“The racers are really getting behind this and I am so pleased to see the enthusiasm in the pits as we get down to the business of sportsman racing and having fun.

“Next up is round three at Willowbank Raceway utlising the eighth mile track distance on July 3 before the Grand Final takes place at Benaraby Dragway on the 25th of September, 2010.

“Using the eighth mile distance at Willowbank Raceway will be something new for the facility, and I can’t wait to see how it all pans out in July before we head to the big finale at Benaraby Dragway.”

Taking the spoils at the weekend’s opener were Brandon Gosbell (Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster), Mick Mundey (Hdbitz Modified Bike), Steve Cay (John William Auto Sales Super Street), Scott Sorrenson (Allstar Batteries Super Sedan), Laurie Fitzgerald (RD William Excavator Parts Modified) and Jason Donnelly (Andrews Affordable Mowing Classic).
