IPSWICH MAYOR PAUL PISASALE SUITS UP AHEAD OF FUCHS WINTERNATIONALS

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale has today enjoyed a taste of Australia’s biggest show in drag racing – the Fuchs Winternationals (4-7 June).
The four day event will bring more than 500 racers and an estimated 30,000 spectators to Willowbank Raceway and the city of Ipswich from Thursday, with the Mayor taking some time out of his busy schedule to experience a small taste of the action first-hand today.
Councillor Pisasale said the Fuchs Winternationals is a jewel in the crown of not only Australian drag racing but also for Ipswich.
“Every year the city looks forward to welcoming competitors and visitors to Ipswich.”
While he may have been outside his comfort zone in a race suit as opposed to his usual suit and jacket, Cr. Pisasale looked right at home at the wheel of Jake Donnelly’s 57 Chev Supercharged Outlaw on-track today.
“The sights, sounds and smells of drag racing certainly sent my heart rate up. To say it was exciting is an understatement.
“I’m very much looking forward to another successful event and also want to thank the many volunteers who are devoted to the sport. They make a tremendous contribution to Willowbank Raceway,” Cr Pisasale said.
The pre-event activities for the Fuchs Winternationals continue this evening, with two-time Top Fuel champion Phil Lamattina and his fellow-Fuchs sponsored racer and seven-time Top Doorslammer champion John Zappia and his Fuchs-sponsored Top Doorslammer to be on-hand at the Booval Burson Auto Parts store this afternoon for a fan meet and greet (4.00pm to 6.00pm, 196 Brisbane Street Booval).
ABOUT THE FUCHS WINTERNATIONALS
The Fuchs Winternationals is the jewel in the crown of Willowbank Raceway and the Australian drag racing industry.
A truly iconic event, not only is the Fuchs Winternationals the largest championship drag racing event held outside of North America, it is also the final championship round of the season for all of the country’s drag racing brackets.
From the amazing flame-throwing Top Fuelers right through to Junior Dragsters, every single bracket that competes for national championship honours will be on-track at the FUCHS Winternationals, with more than 500 cars and bikes from all over the country expected to be on-track over four big days of racing.
This guarantees non-stop action all day from Thursday 4 June to Sunday 7 June both on and off the track, with thrilling racing complimented by a wide range of things to see and do in the pits and spectator entries – all amongst an awesome festive atmosphere.
Spectators have a range of viewing options available to them, from finding a grassy spot on ‘the hill’ to general admission and reserved grandstand seating; while corporate guests have a range of options available from the permanent fixtures of the instantly recognisable Willowbank Raceway corporate centre and the Bendigo Bank Corporate Club to the purpose-built Sky Marquee of the Fuchs Winternationals.
