Willowbank Raceway - General News: CLASSY DAME SET TO FEATURE AT AUTOSPECTACULAR THIS WEEKEND

CLASSY DAME SET TO FEATURE AT AUTOSPECTACULAR THIS WEEKEND

9 April 2013

The Shannons Queensland Autospectacular set to hit Willowbank Raceway this Sunday 14 April will feature a wide range of autos and enthusiasts from all across the country.

From long-time enthusiasts to newcomers, from family patriarchs to budding car buffs, the Autospectacular has something for everyone – and that includes the ladies.

One woman in particular will be at Willowbank Raceway this Sunday with pride, showing off her 1964 Buick Riviera as part of the judged display.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of this great dame of a car – the Buick Riviera,” said car owner and show co-founder Linda Hall.

“With its stylish and sporty lines, this Buick classic was designed to appeal to the sophisticated car buyer and with an original price tag of $4,333 was considered an expensive luxury for the day.

“Today, cars like mine can bring in many times that amount as they have stood the test of time.”

Hall has been the proud owner of the car she calls "Blue Lady" for five years after shipping the car from America.

“The car was in very good original condition with very little work required to present it as it is today,” said Hall.

“I think the colour – Wedgewood Blue – is just the perfect colour for a lady’s car, and with its blue interior I really enjoy its look and feel.

“I have taken her to many car runs and rallies in South East Queensland and the Eastern states and she always turns heads, I can certainly say I enjoy driving it and I am looking forward to putting her on show this weekend at the Shannons Queensland Autospectacular.”

On Sunday 14 April, more than 1,000 vehicles (for judging and display) and up to 9,000 auto enthusiasts are expected to hit Willowbank Raceway for the third Shannons Queensland Autospectacular.

A partnership between the Buick Car Club and Willowbank Raceway, the event continues to grow to the delight of car lovers, with 2013 set to host a wide range of activities for fans of all ages.

On offer will be not only judged and display cars and bikes, a large swap area including free parts pick-up service and timed quarter-mile test and tune drags; but also the Australian Rocker Cover Championship, helicopter joy flights; a car sales corrall, Drift City 1/10 scale drift car display, dyno and audio competitions, a wheel-changing challenge and a historic speed car display. Add to that the Shannons Big Rig and a vibrant drag racing display including on-track demonstration by competitors, and you have a great value family day out.

Gates open to the public at 7.00am, general entry is just $10 with children aged 14 and under gaining free admission. Proceeds from the Shannons Queensland Autospectacular benefit AngelFlight, the Ipswich Hospice and the Flinders District Scouts.
