MEDIA RELEASE CANNULI AND BEKTASH CONFIRMED FOR PRO STREET SHOOTOUT

4 September 2012

Top Alcohol stalwart John Cannuli and Pro Stock star Lee Bektash will be leading the way in a field of around 130 Pro Street racers when the Australian Pro Street Association’s Pro Street Shootout hits Willowbank Raceway on Saturday 15 September 2012.

Cannuli will front up the ten-strong popular 10.5 category which is well known for attracting Australian drag racing royalty, with big names frequenting the bracket famous for its big tyres, big burnouts and tight competition as the racers hunt for prize money as well as bragging rights.

The 10.5 category is just one of ten race brackets to light up Queensland’s premier drag racing facility later this month, with around 130 racers to compete across the Outlaw Radial, Pro Street Blown, Pro Street Unblown, Pro Street Bike, Modified Street Blown, Modified Street Unblown, X275,True Street Unblown and DYO brackets.

Bektash will be taking to the track in a special Pro Stock Shootout bracket along with seven other racers.

With all brackets being run in the Chicago Shootout style (three rounds for all racers plus a final) Johnny Wilson of APSA says there will be plenty of great value for money racing on track for spectators, with tickets just $25 for adults, $20 for students with ID and free for children aged 13 and under.

“We are so excited to be able to confirm great names like Cannuli and Bektash amongst the ranks for September’s Pro Street Shootout at Willowbank Raceway,” said Wilson.

“The roll call doesn’t stop there either, with around 130 racers expected over our ten race brackets including fan favourites such as Tony Wedlock, Jason Donnelly and Mark Jacobson.

“With such a wide variety of race brackets and cars on track plus a huge $3000 prize purse on offer for the DYO bracket, this event won’t disappoint, so we hope to see plenty of spectators out at Willowbank Raceway on the 15th of September!”

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said the track was looking forward to welcoming the Pro Street racers back to Queensland’s premier drag racing facility.

“ProStreet events are always popular here at Willowbank Raceway with such a wide variety of vehicles taking each other on,” said Bettes.

“The Pro Street Shootout is part of a big week for Willowbank Raceway, with the Queensland chapter of The Veteran Car Club of Australia and ‘the world’s slowest drag race’ taking to the drag strip the day before.

“It is shaping up to be a great few days; we can’t wait to see these amazing vehicles on track!”
