Thunderous super trucks, flame-throwing nitro and nostalgia funny cars and jet-powered dragsters – that is just some of what you can expect to see at Willowbank Raceway’s upcoming Flame and Thunder Extravaganza.

The new event, to be held at the Ipswich quarter-mile on Saturday 26 November, promises to entertain no matter where your heart lies – with trucks, funny cars, jet cars, bikes, modifieds, supercharged outlaws, streeters and dragsters all on the menu.

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said he couldn’t wait to host this exciting mix at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility in just 10 days time.

“The Flame and Thunder Extravaganza has a bit of everything - from the razor-edge racing of the nitro funny cars to the thunderous roar of 19L super prime movers!” said Bettes.

“That’s pretty exciting in itself, but that isn’t all – on top of the feature racing we have a serve of fireworks and a full support program to ensure an action-packed all-night program!

“With adult tickets just $25.00 and children 13 years of age and under gaining free entry – this is the perfect opportunity to treat the family to a night of drag racing action!”

Racers to look out for will be Anthony Begley in the Begley/Bailey Camaro Funny Car and Ricky Steffens in the Christine and Ricky Steffens Pontiac Funny Car. Fans can expect mid to low five second passes at around 270 miles per hour from this pair.

Well-known nitro-racer Andrew Cowin will also be making an appearance in his Rocket Team ’57 Chevy alongside Shane Olive and his ’72 Plymouth Satellite for some Nostalgia action in the low six second to high five second range in excess of 200 miles per hour.

Also on track will be Graham Slapp and Steve Mirams, punching out seven second, 200mph passes aboard their Boomer and Voodoo Chilli Jet Cars respectively, while those looking for big truck action should keep an eye out for John Kelly of Heavy Haulage Australia.

Kelly will be bringing two of his trucks which lead a double life as both show and working vehicles, including his Peterbuilt left hand drive machine which he has previously tested out on the Willowbank quarter mile at test and tune events to the great excitement of those trackside.

The Flame and Thunder Extravaganza will be held at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday 26 November 2011 with racing from 5.00pm. Tickets are just $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for students with ID while children 13 years of age and under gain free admission.
